A traditional stud earring is usually inserted from the front and secured from behind with a butterfly back. Many flat-back designs work in the opposite direction: the post with its flat disc is inserted from behind the ear, and the decorative front is then attached and secured from the front.

While developing the collection, we questioned whether the word “piercing” fully described these designs.
Visually, the pieces belong to the world of modern piercing jewellery: small-scale forms, close-fitting placement and endless styling possibilities across the ear.
Technically, however, they are designed to fit standard earlobe piercings.
This idea led us to the name P-earring, combining the words “piercing” and “earring”.
The name expresses the central idea behind the design: the contemporary character of a piercing, made more accessible through the slim proportions of an earring post.
The aim is not to choose one category over the other. It is to create a new space between them.
How Does the KURSHUNI Screw System Work?
The KURSHUNI flat-back system consists of two main parts.
First, the slim post with its flat disc is carefully inserted from behind the ear. The decorative front—featuring the symbol, gemstone or design—is then screwed into place from the front.
This front-fastening mechanism holds the two parts securely together without requiring a butterfly back. Once correctly fastened, the jewellery sits close to the ear with a balanced and refined appearance.
The system may feel different from a traditional stud earring the first time you use it. Because flat-back jewellery is fastened from the front of the ear, it requires a little more care and precision.
Using a mirror and making sure your hands are clean and dry can make the process easier. Turn the front gently until it feels secure, without overtightening it. If the jewellery is worn continuously, check the screw connection periodically.
Can You Sleep in Flat-Back Earrings?
One of the main reasons people choose flat-back earrings is the smoother feeling they can provide while resting or sleeping.
