KURSHUNI Evil Eye

The mini glass evil eye beads, known as KURSHUNI NAZARI, are handcrafted one by one and bear the distinctive signature of the KURSHUNI brand. Evil eye beads are used as a protective charm against the evil eye. It is believed that the evil eye stems from feelings of jealousy and envy. The evil eye has been used as a common symbol across different cultures for thousands of years. It is believed that the human eye emits an invisible ray capable of harming others. The belief that a single glance can cause immense harm has driven civilizations to seek protection against the evil eye, bringing the evil eye bead into prominence.
It is known that the first evil eye amulet dates back to around 3300 B.C. The earliest examples were discovered in excavations in Mesopotamia. The first known examples of today’s evil eye beads emerged in the Mediterranean region around 1500 B.C. It is believed that glass evil eye beads from the Aegean Islands and Anatolia emerged as a result of the development of glass production in these regions. It is estimated that the origins of today’s blue evil eye bead lie in the cultures of the Aegean Islands, the Mediterranean, and Egypt. The evil eye bead was used by the Phoenicians, Assyrians, Greeks, Romans, and Ottomans. Although the use of the evil eye bead was more concentrated in the Mediterranean region, it spread to different corners of the world through increased trade relations and the expansion of empires. In Turkey, the tradition of placing an evil eye bead on newborn babies continues to this day.
